Architect of Olympic Stadium dead The architect of the Munich Olympic Stadium, Günter Behnisch, is dead. Behnisch became known for his unadorned and simple architectural style. As a former submarine officer, Behnisch rejected closed rooms and cramped spaces. This became evident in his buildings: The stadium, the plenary hall in Bonn and the rebuilt Berlin Academy of Arts were all marked by well-lit and open structures. Behnisch had suffered several strokes during the past couple of years. The 88-year-old died on Monday in his house in Stuttgart. Register to read more... |
